Research Development

UVA’s Research Development team is a strategic resource for faculty pursuing external funding for large, collaborative projects. Services include identifying appropriately-scaled opportunities, managing the proposal development process, and providing advice and iterative reviews to enhance competitiveness of proposals. The team also manages the university’s selection process for limited submission opportunities, and provides research intelligence to inform decisions relevant to the research enterprise. We work with partners across Grounds and beyond to support the university’s goal of increasing the quality and quantity of externally funded research at UVA.

Research Development team members work directly with faculty pursuing external funding for large, collaborative projects, and center-scale efforts of strategic institutional importance. Our services are available upon request and at the discretion of the Associate VP for Research Development. In most cases, services must be requested at least 3 months prior to the sponsor’s deadline.

Limited Submission Opportunities (LSOs) are those in which the sponsor has placed a restriction on the number of proposals, applications, or nominations that may be submitted from an institution. The Research Development team is responsible for managing the university’s selection process for LSOs.

The Research Development team curates and creates workshops, training events, webinars and programs designed to enhance our faculty’s grant-getting skills and increase awareness of sponsor expectations. See our Resources for Researchers page!
